Hemorrhoid | Piles, Causes , Symptoms, Prevention, Treatment by Homeo Dr. Zeeshan Saeed Qazi
Hemorrhoids, also called piles, are swollen veins in your anus and lower rectum, similar to varicose veins. Hemorrhoids often cause bleeding during bowel movements. They can be painful and uncomfortable. Hemorrhoids can occur inside the rectum. These are called internal hemorrhoids. Or, they can occur under the skin around the anus. These are called external hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are common in both men and women. They often occur after straining during a bowel movement. Pregnancy and childbirth can also cause hemorrhoids. People who are overweight or obese are at increased risk for hemorrhoids.
There are a number of things you can do to relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids. These include:
- taking over-the-counter pain relievers
- applying topical creams or ointments to the area
- taking sitz baths
- using stool softeners
- avoiding straining during bowel movements
If home treatment does not work, you may need to have hemorrhoids removed. This can be done in a number of ways, including:
- rubber band ligation
- infrared coagulation
Hemorrhoids can be uncomfortable. But in most cases, they can be treated at home. And once they have gone away, they usually do not come back.
